So, it looks like my adventures with my Matchless in India will shortly be drawing to and end. My wife’s work contract in Hyderabad will finish around mid-April along with all of our visa documentation. And so it will be time to leave India after 18 incredible months and move on to pastures new.
And what an 18 months it has been, especially the last year or so whilst I have had my Matchless! Everything that anyone ever told me about India is undoubtedly true, but at the same time the exact opposite is also true too. India is one big, noisy, smelly, chaotic, colourful contradiction of itself! There is of course poverty, but also unimaginable wealth; squalor but also the grandest of palaces; an eyesore but also stunning beauty; the list could go on forever… Oh and I shouldn’t forget, a craze for the latest imported Harley Davidsons, but also a love for the old British bikes which are still plodding around the place!
But anyway, on to new adventures and it has now been confirmed that, rather than moving back to the UK as we originally expected, we will instead be moving to Hong Kong! The idea of living back in cold grey London after the colour and heat of Hyderabad jsut didn’t seem like a great idea. So when the opportunity to relocate to Hong Kong came along instead, that made much more sense!
The slight complication of course was that I will also need to ship my G3Ls to Hong Kong with me and then get it re-registered, taxed and insured there. I have no idea how this will work, whether there are such things as Matchless motorbikes there already, or how any of it will work.
But I guess that will all be part of the next chapter in the story of my Matchless…
Hi James,
I don’t know if you remember, we chatted about bringing bikes from india last November. Well you’ll be glad to know I’ve bought over my Enfield and now I’m going to ship over a 1950 Matchless G3LS from Hyderabad. I’d love to have a quick chat with you again regarding some info about the bikes
Cheers, Richie
Hi Ritchie,
Great news with regards to you bringing your bikes over to Hong Kong! I’ve sent you an email so hopefully we can chat soon…
Regards, James 🙂
