Looking for the taillight assembly for a 1961 matchless G12 CSR 650. Lost the license plate and taillight. Wish to keep it vintage. Living in Northern California Wine Country.
Need sources.
Thanks
Hi Roy. Give Steve at AMC Classic Spares a call. He is in the UK but keeps quite a lot of second-hand “vintage” parts and is good at shipping parts internationally at minimal cost. Otherwise, keep an eye on eBay perhaps.
hello I am owner of a matchless g80s 1955, someone could explain me what does the ” s ” in g80s means
S denotes spring, eg swinging arm, frame.
Hi,
I have a 1959 G3LS or G3, depending on who you believe, sold originally to the UK Auxiliary Fire Service. Any idea what the “L” in G3LS stands for? I believe it is to do with telescopic forks but it would be “T” if it stood for telescopic.
All the best,
Mike
From memory, the “L” stands for “lightweight”. Hard to believe when you’re trying to haul the thing on and off the stand perhaps, but the telescopic forks are lightweight compared to the previous girder fork arrangements. The “S” stands for “sprung” referring to the rear end of the bike. A G3L has a rigid rear end whereas a G3LS has a sprung rear wheel.
Hope this helps, regards, James 🙂
Sounds reasonable. Thanks.
Mike

I have a 1941 Matchless G3L war bike that I am restoring. I’m desperate to find out what kind of paint I need and what colours, tints, etc of all the individual parts should be. Who do I speak to.
Regards Paul
Hi Paul. The owner’s club is probably a good place to start. Have a look at the website here (www.jampot.com) and maybe try posting your questions on the forum. Regards, James
I am hoping to just find out if the numbers are correct on a 1937 500cc AJS that I am buying. The frame number I have is 611 and the engine number is 37-18-565.I would appreciate any information in regards to this.
Thanks.
Michael Penney.
I’ve found in my father in laws attic an American ww2 Rawlings tank helmet painted black and yellow with a Matchless badge attached to the front? Does any one know of the possible History of this item or know of any clubs that used these helmets?
Thanks Mark.
