A couple of updates on the Matchless Clueless website for you this month!
The first of these is a guide to the modern equivalents for the original range of KLG spark plugs that were fitted to many classic motorcycles. The ‘Which spark plug?’ article has long since been one of the most popular pages on this site, but it only covers the KLG ‘FE80’ spark plug model listed for my Matchless G3LS. But what about all of the other KLG plug types and variations – the FE50, F100, FS80, FS55P and the like?
That’s where my new ‘KLG spark plug equivalents’ article comes in. It details all of the original range of KLG plugs, explains what the different codes and references mean, and looks at what the modern NGK equivalents of each would be.
The second new page this month is entitled ‘Selecting a new battery’ and looks at the choices and decisions available when you come to replace the battery on your motorcycle. It explains the different battery types, looks which is best for motorbike applications, which to avoid and gives links to some possible suppliers.
Happy reading!

Hi,
I have just purchased a 1939 350 OHV and wondered whether I can run on unleaded fuel or need to add a lead substitute?
Thanks
Andy
Hi what klg range plug should I use for a 1960 ajs 650 csr.
Thanks
Ray
Hi Ray. Sorry for delayed reply. A KLG FE80 is the plug you are looking for. Alternatively an NGK B8ES will do the trick, and might even be slightly better. I would also recommend trying the Iridium version of the NGK B8ES – BR8EIX from memory (don’t worry about the resistance, it won’t make a difference, honest, but the fine terminal might make starting easier and tickover much smoother!).
Hi James,
I thought we had ‘lost you’ since you stopped subscribing to the Jampot Forum etc.
How are you getting on and where in the world are you now?
regards from
