Hi Neville,
Sorry, I have no experience with the Matchless G2 models. Your best bet is to post the info you have and maybe some photos on the ‘AJS and Matchless Owners Club’ forum here:
http://www.ajs-matchless.com/forum/
The Owners Club also offers a ‘Machine Dating Service’ for a small fee which should tell you everything you need to know about your bike based upon the original factory records. See here for more info:

Hi
I have a matchless engine no T41979. has anyone got any idea of the year and model?? I believe is may be a g3ls???
Hi Ian. Your best bet is the dating service offered by the owner’s club – see the link in my replies above. You could also try posting a message on the owner’s club forum and someone might be able to give you some basic details if that is all you require (posting a photo or two is a good idea), but the dating service will give you be the most accurate and complete answer. Regards, James
Hello,
I was wondering if you- or any other readers, could be of assistance with determining the years on two different pieces.
1.Matchless frame, G3L no.59023
2.Matchless engine, G3L no.64080
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Eric
Hi Eric. Please see my reply above regarding the dating service offered by the owner’s club. They also have a new online dating service available now for frame numbers which will give you an instant response if your frame is in their system.

James 🙂
Dear Sirs: I believe I have a Matchless frame; it is fitted with a Norton P11 engine, albeit not a good fit. I doubt seriously the frame is original to the engine as the numbers don’t match. Can you help me verify what frame model I have? The frame is stamped as A76125; the engine (for your records) is stamped P11/122989; the gearbox is stamped P11 18107
Thank you for whatever help or direction you can provide. If there is a fee for the service in searching the info on the frame, I will be honored to pay it.
Respectfully, Dave McCament, So. CA USA
Hi Dave. Sorry, I can’t really assist other than to point you towards the dating service on the owner’s club website as per my other reply above. Regards, James
Hi James,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have been in email contact with Roy. We’re both scratching our heads as the frame is clearly a G85/P11 type but with a frame number of a G12. Either I have a very rare frame or someone welded an entirely different headstock in place of the original. Only the LORD knows at this point what I have. Take care & thanks again.
Dave McCament
Cheers Dave. Looks like you’re in touch with the right people and hopefully you’ll solve the mystery sooner or later!
Hi, I would just like to know if anyone could please tell me what year of manufacture and who were the previous owners of the following Matchless 650. The engine number is G12/x10144 and the frame number is A86408
Many thanks
Andrew

Hi Dave McCament,
I am Darwin from Indonesia. I found an engine with number p11/122989 here in Indonesia along with it’s frame with matching number. Friend of mine imported it from USA in 2018
You mentioned you own the engine with similar engine number. Do you still owned it?
What a coincident..
My email is [email protected]
Appreciate you reply.
Greetings, Darwin,
I sold my P11 a few years ago. They are a very rare bike. I now own a 1967 Norton N15 hybrid… these are beautiful bikes to be sure. I hope you enjoy your P11 (: Congratulations on your purchase!
I am considering buying a 1961 Matchless twin and wish to learn more about the model. I believe it is a G12. The engine number is 61/ R, 31GSX7204.
Can you help or point me in the right direction to find out more about the bike.
Thank you
