Description
These new LED light boards have been specially designed at the request of a number of customers who have already installed one of our Bonneville LED rear light conversions and who wish to do the same for their indicators too. They are designed to fit perfectly inside the stock factory-fitted Triumph indicator lamps (front and rear) on the modern Bonneville, Bonneville T100, Scrambler and Thruxton models (possibly other models too). Please check the photos above to confirm the the indicator style matches those on your bike.
The LED indicator boards are sold in a complete set of four pieces for both the front and rear indicators (i.e. you get two pairs). If you only wish to convert the front or rear indicators to LEDs, then the indicator light boards are also sold in pairs here.
Each Bonneville LED indicator board features a total of 12 super-bright yellow LEDs running on the same advanced tried-and-tested circuitry that was first developed for our original Lucas 564 LED unit. That board uses a mere 10 super-bright LEDs for the stop and tail light functions and is already as bright as the standard 21/5W filament bulb which these LED board replace. So you can imagine how visible this Bonneville indicator unit is with 12 rear-facing LEDs providing the flashing indicator function!
But LED light boards are not just about brightness – in fact we design them to be of about the same brightness as the standard bulb (well, actually just a little bit brighter to be on the safe side!). They’re also about the quality and pattern of the light emitted. A filament bulb gives a single bright source of light which shines in all directions. LEDs on the other hand are much more focused so that the light goes where you want it to go and isn’t wasted bouncing around the inside of the lamp housing. Cheaper generic LED conversions are not specifically designed for the Triumph light units and so aren’t able to provide the same illumination and wide viewing angle, irrespective of how many LEDs they may include.
A well-designed array of LEDs also provides a much more even illumination of the indicator lens making your bike more visible to following motorists. LEDs turn on and off much more rapidly than conventional bulbs as there is no filament to repeatedly heat up and cool down. This results in a much more definite and conspicuous flash on and off, and hence better visibility of your bike ahead of that crucial turn or lane change.
Installation is simple and straightforward and completely plug-and-play. No drilling, cutting or modification of the lamp housing, lens or wire is needed. The LED board fixes to the standard mounting points inside the lamp shell using the two original screws. The original filament bulb holder and reflector are removed when the LED board is fitted, but these are not cut, damaged or altered in anyway so can easily be reinstalled later if you so wish. The LED board connects to the original wiring so there is no need to cut any wires or make any new connections. The only tool required for the installation is a small screwdriver to remove the orange plastic indicator lens.
Installation time is about 5 minutes per indicator (you’ll probably fit the second one even quicker!). It takes about the same time as replacing a bulb, and that’s something you’ll probably never need to do again thanks to how long LEDs last.
Full installation instructions for the Bonneville LED indicator boards can be found here.
Please note that when converting all four indicators to LEDs it is often necessary to replace the factory-fitted flasher unit with one that is designed for lower power operation. If both the front and rear indicators are changed to LEDs then the lights may not flash or may flash too quickly. LED compatible flasher units are a direct replacement for the standard factory-fitted unit and can cope with any combination of LEDs and regular bulbs. There is usually no need to change the flasher unit though if you only change the front OR rear indicators over to LEDs; the remaining filament bulbs should draw enough current to keep the stock flasher unit happy.
