Real progress made today! With the front wheel fitted, the frame is now half way towards being “rolling” again.
A new tyre has been fitted – a Dunlop model if you’re interested. The front brake drum has also been stripped down, cleaned, inspected (they reckon there’s about a years worth of brake lining left) and then refitted.
The back wheel also has a new tyre on it (Dunlop again) but there is a small problem with the rear sprocket that still needs some work. The sprocket was replaced, along with the chain and front sprocket, as all were showing signs of wear. But one of the five holes on the rear sprocket was out by just a fraction of a millimetre; a tiny amount but enough to prevent the last of the five bolts screwing into place. No doubt a small tweak with a file will solve the problem, but not until tomorrow.
The mechanic tells me that the engine will be running by the end of tomorrow, but somehow I doubt it. The oil and fuel lines still have to be reinstalled, as do the various drive chains on the other side of the engine. I guess we shall see…
